Review
Alien is something of a breakthrough in the Aliens comic universe; it’s the first time a story is based around a sentient alien race that encounters the Aliens. Whilst sentient extraterrestrial races have featured in stories before they have usually been cameos or wacky short stories.
The extraterrestrials in question are a primitive hunter/gatherer society and it’s nice to see that some thought had gone into how their society functions. The plot revolves around an adolescent named Suom who must perform a successful hunt to become a man. He volunteers to join the expedition to achieve this goal. The twist at the end of the story is enhanced in my view, as it makes sense and we can understand Soum’s motivations.
I liked the artwork, but if I had to nitpick I wasn’t over-keen on the depiction of the Aliens.
This is what I really expected more of in the Aliens comic universe, new ideas and scenarios being explored, instead of the same old tropes and situations, so I have to mark this story highly just for originality.
